The Kelly occurrence is underlain by Middle Jurassic basalts, mudstones and siltstones of the Hazelton Group.

Samples 14940 and 14941 had gold values of 1.37 and 1.39 grams per tonne and copper values of 0.299 per cent and 0.246 cent respectively, from limey mudstones draping pillow basalts; silver values were 8.3 and 9.3 grams per tonne (Assessment Report 21321). A sample taken in 2007 (sample 147564), estimated to be within 100 meters of the 1990 sample did not return any significant copper or gold values.

In 2007, Paget Minerals Corp prospected its Malachite Peak claims and collected 19 rock samples over parts of the same ground that Major General worked in 1990.

In 1990, Major General Resources Ltd conducted geological mapping at and prospected the Kelly 4 claims during which 27 rock samples, 7 silt samples, 152 soil samples and 10 pan concentrate samples were collected.

In 1989 and 1990, Ecstall Mining, Omega Gold and High Frontier Resource held the Bell claims, a strip of which on the Bell 15 claim covered ground adjacent (or covering) the showing area (Assessment Report 20658). A number of samples were taken on the Bell 15 showing during this program. See also Bell 6 for related work history.

In 2018 Cameo Cobalt Corporation conducted an airborne magnetic survey over their Big Mac West and Big Mac East properties. A total of 511.4 line-kilometres were flown over the Big Mac East, and a total of 201.4 line-kilometres were flown over the Big Mac West during the 2018 field program. Twenty-seven rock samples were taken from the Big Mac West Property which contains two MINFILE occurrence, Tic 8 (104B 367) and Forrest 13 (104B 493). The Big Mac East property also contains two MINFILE occurrences, Bell 6 (104B 483) and Kelly (104B 482). Interpretation of the airborne magnetic data has identified a strong magnetic anomaly stretching more than five kilometers in a generally north-northeast trend across the Big Mac East block claims. This anomaly appears to be up to approximately one kilometre wide (Press Release, Cameo Cobalt Corp, Feb 2, 2019).
